Serenade of Lilies took Susan Swartz an entire year to paint during the worst period of her battle with Lyme disease and mercury poisoning. Continuing to create when possible gave her the strength to fight and a deep gratitude for life, resulting in a painting that is a lyrical meditation on light, movement, and the ephemeral beauty of the natural world. Layers of soft color and gestural abstraction evoke the delicate presence of lilies emerging through atmosphere and texture, creating a composition that feels both grounded in nature and dreamlike in its emotional resonance.
