With more than 100 paintings on display, Susan Swartz's solo exhibition Personal Path at the Ludwig Museum in Budapest was an emotional and introspective journey for the viewer as well as for the artist.
The Budapest exhibition offered a meditative experience for visitors, with the Contemplation room - in which Swartz's Contemplation series were featured - providing an environment of calm reflection. While monochromatic and subtle, the works featured in this exhibition unveiled Swartz's skillful approach to creating visual complexity through restriction and intention. With this intentionality, Swartz evokes a specific sensation with each piece, ranging from grounding in nature to spiritual transcendence.
Created from a passionate belief in the preservation of nature and individual health, the artworks in this exhibition are not loud in their message, but communicate to those willing to hear. In the words of exhibition curator Dieter Ronte, "In the paintings are reflected the artist's 'personal path' and her commitment to an intact world - in the hope that her paintings can serve as testimony demonstrating the beauty of nature while human beings increasingly destroy it [...] Instead of discussing the issues constantly, the artist confronts us with her images."
